Fuchsia Diseases
Fuchsias are relatively disease free. The main thing to look out for is the "gall mite".
Leaves will be be deformed, to the point that the branch stops growing. Make sure you cut off the branch as soon as you see signs of the mite (by the time you can see signs there are probably thousands of the little buggers).
Throw away the branch in a zip lock bag to prevent escapees.
If the plant continues to be infected, toss the whole plant. It is not worth trying to save a particular fuchsia when there are so many others to try.
Fuchsia Care
Fuchsias do not like sun, but filtered sun is ideal. If they are grown in total shade, with no sunlight, they will grow leggy with fewer flowers.
They appreciate quite a bit of water, but don't let water accumulate or stand in the pot. If the soil gets too dry, fuchsias will wilt: spritzing them with water should perk them up in an hour or so. If they are wilted too long, the leaves will drop.
Fuchsias can be fertilized weekly.
If the weather gets hot, or the humidity is low, fuchsias will require extra water and/or spritzing.
Fuchsia Festival 2010
This year's (2009) was a great success (thanks to all who attended and all who helped put it on). Next year promises to be even better.
